Hazwoper training applies to workers and employers involved in five specific types of operations, according to OSHA standards. These include clean-ups at Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) sites, as well as cleanup operations at treatment, storage and disposal (TSD) facilities. The online course is fully narrated and contains interactive exercises and real-world examples.

People who are required to complete this training according to government regulations include general site workers, labourers and equipment operators, on-site management and supervisors. The 40-hour course is designed for workers who face the highest risk of exposure on the job. For workers and supervisors who are on site only occasionally and unlikely to be exposed to the above permissible exposure limits, 24-hour Hazwoper training is appropriate.

Roles that may necessitate this training include:

1. Operators of heavy machinery

2. General workers

3. Other general site employees

4. Management and supervisory personnel on-site

The 40-hour training is intended for those who are most vulnerable to exposure on the job. 24-hour HAZWOPER training is suited for personnel and supervisors who are only on-site on occasion and are unlikely to be exposed to acceptable exposure levels. Every year, all personnel who have completed HAZWOPER training must undergo an 8-hour HAZWOPER Refresher course.
